In the most lucrative weekly online poker tournament across the globe - the Poker Stars.com Sunday Million $1.5M GTD - the online poker room managed to avoid yet another overlay as nearly 8,000 participants registered for the tournament.
Being the largest online poker room in the world, www.PokerStars.com had no overlay issues for a very long stretch in 2007 and 2008, that is until it upped its normal Sunday Million prize pool from the traditional $1,000,000 to a massive $1,500,000. Since then, PokerStars has been shelling out a few thousand here and there each week to cover the guaranteed prize pool; but not this week.
A field of 7,836 paid the $200 buy-in that not only covered the guaranteed purse, but tosses an additional $67k into the mix for a final GP of $1,567,200. Reaping the most rewards was "METZMAGNY", who walked away with the 1st place prize of $191,982; several grand higher than the usual top prize of about $184k.
It was a long day for participating members of PokerStars, coming down to the final table in the wee hours of Monday morning. When “h2oace” was whisked to the rails in 3rd position, heads-up play finally ensued between the highly skilled abilities of “ldgii” and “METZMAGNY”.
When the dust settled, “ldgii” walked away only somewhat disappointed, pocketing $129,451 for an impressive 2ndd place win. “METZMAGNY” was crowned the victor, coming away $191,982 richer.
