Absolute Poker and UltimateBet make up the Cereus network and the two were working together to host the Sports Legends Challenge in September. The event would see poker pros and sports players competing in a tournament as well as online qualifiers. Some of the biggest names in poker as well as sports were scheduled to attend but now the event has been postponed to 2010.
The event had been campaigned hard in the press and absolute poker was offering players a chance to win packages to the event. those who won seats or have already paid the fee to attend the event will have their seat honored once the event is rescheduled according to a press release on the Sports Legends Challenge website.
Bruce Bibbero, the CEO of Sports Legends Challenge, commented: "While the decision to reschedule the inaugural event was not an easy one, there is no doubt that it is the best possible decisions help ensure the program's ultimate success." Bibbero also stated:
“Change is never easy, but virtually everyone associated with the event recognizes that the first priority is to preserve the essence of the concept- poker and sports fans enjoying unprecedented interaction with their sports and poker heroes.”
An email was sent to registered users of the Cereus network from Bruce Bibbero and Larry Lubin on September 1st stating the event was being postponed. The email stated their was difficulty traveling abroad and the event would be moved to the United States. The email also stated players would be emailed the details of the new time and place over the next few days. On the 3rd the site posted a press release that stated it would be yet another few weeks before the details of the new event would be finalized.
