Poker pro Jean-Robert Bellande is no longer part of the Bodog poker team as his contract was not renewed with the site. Bodog's poker team now has only three sponsored pros. Bodog wished nothing but the best for Bellande but did not renew his contract any further.
A spokesman commented on Bodog’s decision to not renew the contract by stating: "Jean-Robert Bellande’s deal with Bodog Poker expired at the end of October and the decision was made not to renew the deal. It has been an absolute pleasure having Jean-Robert as one of Bodog’s Poker pros and we wish him all the best."
Bellande originally joined the Bodog poker team in March 2008 and had earned the nickname Action Bob for his fast and aggressive playing reputation. Bellande began earning exposure on the poker scene after he finished third in a 2005 WSOP circuit event for $210,900. Just one week later he won the Winnin o the Green tournament for $148,000.
The decision not to renew Bellande’s contract came as a bit of a surprise since he made a statement back in February which stated that he was ‘thrilled to continue (my) relationship with Team Bodog. Bodog is a fantastic organization and (I am) excited to continue with such a select team of world-class poker players.”
The three remaining poker pros on Team Bodog are Evelyn Ng, Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo and David Williams. It will be interesting to see if Bellande will be picked up by another major poker room or if he may sign with a smaller, up and coming poker room. Bellande may decide to stay away from sponsorship for some time since his contract with Bodog has not been renewed.
