It seems like it was only yesterday that Tom ‘durrrr' Dwan issued his open challenge to the poker community but in fact it has been months. The poker pro offered to challenge nay poker pro to 50,000 hands of poker. Patrik Antonius took the challenge and the two have faced off at Full Tilt Poker on numerous occasions.
Dwan is putting up $1.5 million of his money against his opponents $500,000. The challenge consists of 50,000 at cash game Omaha or Hold’em and at the end of the hands the player who is up wins. The winner will take the stake as well as the cash won during the event.
The minimum stakes are $200/$400 and the player would have to reload if they fell below 75 big blinds. Antonius has answered the challenge and the two have completed almost 39,000 of the 50,000 hands. The two have played over 53 sessions at Full Tilt Poker and currently Dwan is up $1.4 million dollars.
During the most recent session at Full Tilt Poker, which took place on March 6th, the two had played just four hands when Antonius was up $1,000. This was a small victory for Antonius and it looks as though he is going to have to fight hard to regain the lead.
Just over 11,000 hands remain and the two are sure to continue soon. The Full Tilt Poker tables heat up when the two are competing in the challenge and it will definitely be interesting to see who will be the eventual winner. Either Dwan or Antonius needs to be up just $1 to be able to win the challenge. If Antonius wins he will earn $1.5 million from Dwan and if Dwan wins then he will get $500,000 of Antonius and of course the winner will secure bragging rights for a long time.
