The Full Tilt Poker Million Dollar Challenge finale took place recently in London with Tom Dwan taking on Sammy George. Dwan had already faced Marcello Marigliano and Ilari Sahamies before he took on George, who he managed to take $750,000 from.
During game play between George and Dwan a 7-2 bonus was up for grabs. This meant that if either player won a pot with the worst starting hand then they would win a $10,000 reward. Dwan was trying hard to claim the bonus, so hard in fact he went all in for $400,000 on a board of J-A-6-3-3 with three hearts with just a 7-2. George had only A-6 for two pair so he folded which gave Dwan the bonus.
Commenting on his loss George stated: "The turning point was the bluff with the 7-2 when I had the two-pair, but I cannot call there for three times the pot. The game was in his favor, he was hitting cards and rivering cards, but I respect Tom a lot and always will. He's one of the best in the world and I think he’s up there with Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius. I think when people see the show, they will have a different opinion of me from what they had before."
Both players had to complete 500 hands together before they could leave the table. In the end Dwan would earn the win of $750,000 against George and would take that amount home after facing George and Marcello and Sahamies during the Challenge.
The Full Tilt Poker Million Dollar Challenge was filmed and will be aired on television sometime next year. This way fans of the poker pros can see how all the action went down.
