The second episode of NBC's new poker show, Face The Ace, aired just a few days ago and a truck driver from Illinois was back to see if he could face the final pro and win $1 million. Don Topel had to face Full Tilt poker pro Gavin Smith in his final round of play on the show and beat him to win the $1 million. Topel risked his earnings last week to face the last pro this week to try for the $1 million prize and if he lost he would take home nothing. Topel played well throughout the show but unfortunately he was unable to come up with the win and went home empty handed.
In the first episode Topel went up against Erick Lindgren in his first match. He beat the poker pro and won $40,000. Topel could then take the money and go home or choose to play another pro. Topel chose to face another pro and this time it was Howard Lederer. Topel won this match as well and earned $200,000 for his efforts. Topel could then take the $200,000 and go home or face the final pro in the hopes of earning $1 million.
Of course Topel decided to go for it and would face the next pro on this week’s episode. So the second episode began with Topel finding out who his opponent would be. Gavin Smith would be the pro Topel had to face and both were given more chips than in the previous matches. This would prove to be in the pros favor. Smith started the match in control of the game and then continued to remain in control to eliminate Don Topel on the final hand.
Topel’s hopes were dashed as he was just one win away from earning a $1 million payday. But he does have the ability to say that he went up against top Full Tilt Poker pros and played very well, even besting some of the best!
