24 year old Tommy "FadinAway" Pontes of Massachusetts became $132k richer this weekend when he routed the competition in Sunday's $750k Guarantee NL Hold’em tournament at www.FullTilt.com.
A field of 3,572 gathered at the online poker room to take part in FullTiltPoker.com’s largest, regularly scheduled event. The high level of participation would grant the top 522 finishers a piece of the prize pool, but resulted in yet another overlay for Full Tilt Poker, tossing an extra $35,600 into the purse to cover the $750k GP.
The action got underway two minutes past 6:00 pm ET at FullTilt Poker, and immediately the virtual rails began to fill its seats. It wasn’t until after 3:00 am Monday morning that a winner would be crowned.
With the final table set, the game play became very tight. Eventually, “Dstemrich” would falter to claim the 3rd place prize of $52,500, leaving “TheDirrty” and “FadinAway” to battle it out in heads-up for 1st place.
In the end, it was Tommy “FadinAway” Ponte who outlasted a worthy advisory to take home the top prize of $132,787. Ponte is no stranger to the online poker tournament world, having taken down an $80k GTD at PokerStars, where he goes by the name “ponteholic”, just 3 days prior. That victory was worth $13,102. In August, his PokerStars tournament cashes included a 3rd and 7th place finish in the online poker room’s ‘Nightly Nifty’, pocketing more than $10k for the combined cashes.
“TheDirrty” earned the 2nd place prize in Full Tilt Poker’s $750 GTD, taking away a respectable $80,250.
