Television shows based on the game of poker are very popular especially when the stakes are high. Full Tilt Poker's Million Dollar Cash Game is a popular choice for poker fans to view on SKYTV in Europe and recently Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey were on the show. Their appearance turned into a record breaker when the two played out the largest pot every on a television show.
The record was previously held by Dwan and Barry Greenstein but now Ivey and Dwan hold the record. In the record setting hand Dwan and Ivey were competing for $1,108,500.
Both were all in with straights. Dwan bet $33,500 preflop on the button with 7-6 hearts. Ivey called with A clubs 2 diamonds. The flop showed J clubs 3 diamonds and five clubs which gave both players gutshot straight draws. Ivey led the betting with $35,000 and Dwan was right there calling the bet.
The river saw a four of hearts and then Ivey went in $90,000 and Dwan raised $232,500.
Ivey then moved all in which pushed the pot up above seven digits. Then Dwan called with a nut straight. The river did not improve Ivey’s hand and he would give it all to Dwan. Interestingly enough Patrik Antonius seemed to be the one hurting according to his facial expressions instead of Ivey who remained stone faced the whole time. Even though Ivey and Dwan broke the current record for the largest pot played on television, it will probably not be long before the record will be broke again. These poker pros like to play with high stakes so it would not be surprising to see the record broke again in the near future.
