Full Tilt Pro Gus Hansen Knocked Out...Boxing? - Monday, February 23, 2009 at 14:45
Full Tilt Pro Gus Hansen and fellow poker pro Theo Jorgensen exchanged their shrewd poker skills for boxing gloves this weekend as the long-time friends took to the boxing ring for 3-round fight that ended in favor of Jorgensen. The judges called the fight to an end, declaring Jorgenson the evident winner.

Theo and the "Great Dane" stepped into the ring on Saturday afternoon in Denmark, Copenhagen, just after the European Poker Tour Scandinavian Open came to a close. Just hours before, Jens Kyllönen had routed the field, earning $1.1 million and the EPT Title after deafening Peter Hedlund in heads-up.

The unique boxing match saw Gus Hansen calling for a handicap. Hansen's victory would have been worth $25,000, while Jorgensen pocketed a cool $35,000 for the declared victory. When the bell rang after the third round, the judges called an end to the battle. Though the FullTilt.net Pro did not appear too badly injured, it was obvious he simply could not withstand the powerful punches of his strapping opponent. Being a publicity stunt to begin with, there was no need to take the fracas any further.

The elite poker pro was promoting his new web site, GusHansenTV.com, a free membership video blog sponsored by Full Tilt Poker and Bet 24. Users will need to download the new Microsoft Silverlight software in order to view Hansen’s sophisticated online poker video blog.

Gus Hansen will now be able to share his adventures via the new video blog, including his boxing pre-match training session with Olympic Medalist Johnny de Lima. With production studios in Las Vegas and Denmark, the Full Tilt Pro will be posting new videos from home and on the road.

The first broadcast on GusHansenTV.com was, in fact, last Saturday’s boxing match, drawing a packed house both online and offline. Live tickets were around $40 a piece. When Hansen and Jorgensen evacuated the ring, another match took place between Sidney Lee and Stig Tøfting, giving boxing fans a real pugilistic showdown to make it worth their while.

On an interesting side note, Saturday was also day 2 of the first match in the “Dwan Challenge”. Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrr” Dwan were in the heat of battle on the Full Tilt Poker felts, but paused the action to tune into the Hansen/Jorgensen match on GusHansenTV.com.
