Phil Ivey Routes Tom “Durrrr” Dwan - Monday, February 16, 2009 at 13:35
Tom "durrrr" Dwan faced heavy combat from Phil Ivey at Full Tilt Poker.com, losing nearly $1 million in the session. Could this be a clear-cut foreshadow of events to come if and when Dwan faces Ivey and other professional poker players who took him up on a 3-to-1 heads-up challenge?

The incident took place early Tuesday morning as Phil Ivey and Tom “durrrr” Dwan faced off at double tables, the weapon of choice Pot Limit Omaha.

In the largest hand of the session, Ivey scraped $270,000 chips from the online poker prodigy. Ivey started with Jh-3h-Tc-9c, double suited connectors that would encourage a Flop from any skilled poker player. Phil bet, durrrr raise, and Ivey made the call.

The Flop came down As-Jc-2d, inciting a check from both players. The Turn brought a 7s. Dwan tossed $11,400, called by Ivey. Then came the River, 8c - Ivey made the Straight. Dwan opened with $32,000, and Ivey quickly Re-Raised to $116,000. Dwan covered the bet, but mucked instantly when Ivey revealed the Straight.

When the session came to a close, Dwan dropped down to nearly $3 million in losses on the year. Phil Ivey, on the other hand, is close to digging himself out of the hole he dug at the start of 2009.

If the challenge pressed forth by Tom “durrrr” Dwan holds up, it will be interesting to see just how deep his pockets are, should his downswing continue. Dwan is considered one of the best - if not ‘the' best - online pocker player in the world. But everyone has their off days.

Dwan’s challenge was offered to anyone who wish to accept (aside from his good friend Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond), requiring 4 multi-tables, $500,000 stakes and 50,000 hands of heads-up PL Omaha action. Dwan brings $1,500,000, 3-times that of his opponent, and after 50,000 hands, whoever has more chips than they entered with is awarded the combined $2 million.

So far, David Benyamine, Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius and Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro have each offered to take Dwan up on the challenge. Antonius is excepted to be the first contendor, but there is no date set, or even official confirmation, for when the challenge would take place on FullTilt Poker.
