It was an action packed weekend at the world's second largest online poker room last Sunday as FullTiltPoker hosted its biggest, regularly scheduled event - the monthly $1,000,000 Guarantee. Thousands of players participated, but "bigdennys" outlasted them all to claim the top prize of more than $200k.
A field of 2,247 took to the Full Tilt Poker virtual felt this weekend, seated amongst 250 tables in anticipation of the online poker room’s most lucrative monthly tournament. A hefty buy-in of $500+35 brought the expected $1m guarantee to a bolstered $1,123,500 as the action got underway at 6:00pm ET.
The competition went on for an exhausting eleven hours as, one by one, players were dispatched to the rails. The final table came and went, dwindling slowly but steadily like an ominous raincloud that has yet to unleash its full potential.
Eventually, it came down to the final three - “bigdennys”, “pokerfiend48” and “gboro780”. Each had shown exceptional skill throughout the online poker tournament, but the cards had to fall in someone’s favor. Lady Luck was not seated beside “pokerfiend48” at that particular moment as the player’s 3rd place exit earned an impressive $82,802.
With heads-up action now set to play out between “bigdennys” and “gboro780”, the thunderclouds finally opened up. Back and forth the chips danced from one stack to another as each competitor’s confidence waxed and waned with each new deal of the cards.
In the end, there could only be one true victor, but the excessive prize pool meant great rewards for both finishers. Finally, “bigdennys” was able to claim the final chips from “gboro780”, taking down the tournament and pocketing the 1st place prize of $206,106. The 2nd place finish brought “gboro780” a remarkable purse of $126,506.
