It was back to business as usual at FullTilt Poker over the weekend, hosting its regular weekly $750,000 Guarantee online poker tournament; a notable contrast from last weekend's monthly $1 Million guarantee where Brazil’s top poker players dominated the tables. In www.FullTilt.com’s latest installment, it was American "tarheelkid" overshadowing the competition as he skillfully whittled his way through the field to scoop $132,788 for the 1st place victory.
There were 3,605 players taking to the tables last Sunday, each forking over the $200+$16 to buy-in to the tournament. Once again, Full Tilt Poker had to toss an additional $29k into the purse to cover the guaranteed prize pool’s overlay.
The competition was steadily fierce as the numbers slowly dropped to form the final table. Then the real action began. One after another, “tarheelkid” found himself inching closer to the crown. When “Eppy1” fell to the rails in 3rd place, it was up to “tarheelkid” and “Papagaio” to battle it out in heads-up.
The perfect combination of skill and luck fell in favor of “tarheelkid” as the 28 year old from California ousted “Papagaio” to claim the top prize of more than $132k. “Papagaio” was awarded the sizable 2nd place prize of $80,250.
Back in June of 2008, “tarheelkid” made another impressive run at the $750k GTD at FullTilt, but came up just shy of the final table with an 11th place finish worth $7,200.
