Simon Watt is the recent title winner of the PokerStars Asian Pacific Poker Tour Auckland Main Event which concluded last night. Watt managed to outlast the field of 263 competitors to win the $200,000 first place prize.
Watt edged into the chip lead on Day 2 and it would help him advance. Watt commented before final table play began that he was very confident. In the end it would be Watt against Gerome Guitteau. When heads up play began Guitteau held a slight chip lead with 2.6 million chips to Watt's 2.25 million.
Play would go back and forth for the first fifteen minutes before a big hand would be played. Watt opened the betting on the button for 75,000 and Guitteau would raise to 200,000. Watt fired back a re-raise at 525,000 and Guitteau called. The flop came 10-8-7 which saw Guitteau check and Watt move all in. Guitteau made the call and the cards were flipped over.
Watt showed A-4 while Guitteau held J-8. Watt won the hand when an Ace appeared and took a large chip lead. Guitteau was left with just 540,000 in chips. Just a few minutes later the tournament would be all over. Guitteau would open with an all in on K-7 while Watt made the call with pocket fives. The board came Q-J-6-9-J and Guitteau would be knocked out in second place leaving Watt the victor.
