It was a day of hefty guarantees around the online poker world last Sunday, but the highest of them all came in the Poker Stars.com weekly Sunday Million, worth a guaranteed purse of $1.5 million to the top finishers. Germany's Daniel "Allanon85" Drescher was the biggest winner of them all, outlasting the competition to claim the 1st place prize of $184,500.
A field of 7,245 took to the tables at PokerStars.com last Sunday, each with great hopes of finishing first, or at least in the top 1,080 money bubble. Those numbers were near enough to making the guaranteed prize amount, but left a slight overlay that resulted in PokerStars filling the gap with $51,000 added.
Coming into the final table short-stacked with about 3.5 million chips, “Allanon85” struggled through at first, but by the time he knocked out “ajco22” in 9th, he had risen substantially to 10.5 million chips. From that point on, it was merely a matter of time before Drescher paved his way to victory.
A hard fought battle from short-stacked “cbdr3799” kept him in the running for much longer than expected, but Allanon85 sent him packing in 3rd to further increase his own lead by another 3.5 million. The only thing left in Allanon85’s way was “aty79”. Heads-up play commenced…
It took only 6 short hands for a winner to emerge. On the final hand, with 500k/1mil blinds, aty79 raised 3 million from the button, called by Allanon85. The Flop fell, 2d-Kh-6c. aty79 offered a small bet, again called by Allanon85. When the Turn revealed a 5s, both players seemed to ignite, eventually resulting in both players pushing all-in.

aty79 knew that without an 8 on the River, it was all over. When the final card flipped, 2c, Allanon85 raked in the last pot and was crowned the victor.
At only 23 years of age, Daniel “Allanon85” Drescher has seen plenty of online poker tournament chases in his time. The most recent came only three days prior at the PokerStars Daily Eighty Grand, where a 4th place finished earned him $5,736.26. Just one day earlier, Drescher finished 2nd in a $40k GTD at PokerStars, worth $8,445. Not even 2 weeks before that, another 2nd place victory of $8,102.26 came from a $50k GTD at PokerStars. Obviously, this young poker talent is one to keep an eye on over the coming years.
