PokerStars European Poker Tour recently stopped in Copenhagen for an event and the stop saw a good number of players competing. 423 players registered for the event and it was Anton Wigg who earned the first place win.
The buy-in to the tournament was €4,500 and Wigg earned his entry into the tournament via a €500 PokerStars satellite. Wigg is just twenty two years of age but he has been playing poker professionally for the past three years. Wigg commented on his win by stating:
"It just feels so wonderful right now. I was in real trouble many times, but I kept my cool and told myself never to give up and I am so proud to have come through."
When the final day of play began, eight players would come back to final table play. It would take eight hours of game play before heads up play would begin. Francesco De Vivo of Italy would face off against Wigg and De Vivo would be the chip leader.
It would take four hours of play before the final hand would be played. De Vivo had lost his chip lead, now sitting at a two to one chip disadvantage. De Vivo would push all in with K-10 and was called by Wigg who held A-J. the board wouldn't help De Vivo in the least so he would be eliminated in second place.
Kristy Thompson a spokesperson for the EPT commented on the stop by stating: “EPT Copenhagen has seen so many personalities during this week and the atmosphere has just been intense. Everyone from car mechanics to opera singers and of course the world’s best poker players came together to create the upsets and fairy tales we’ve come to expect from the Danish leg of the European Poker Tour.”
