It was recently announced that Fox Sports en Espanol and PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour are working together to air the first ever United States broadcast of a Latin American Poker event in the Spanish language. Events will begin to air in Spanish in October of 2010.
Those interested in watching the LAPT coverage in Spanish will be able to watch the tour starting October 10, 2010. The coverage of PokerStars LAPT will air on Fridays at 8pm EST on Fox Sports en Espanol.
PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour is going to stop in San Jose, Vina del Mar, Punta del Este and Mar del Plata. Viewers will be able to see all of the poker action as the pros, online qualifiers and locals take part in the tour stops. Event highlights of all tour events of the second season will be featured as well.
The Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fox Sports en Espanol, David Sternberg, commented: "We have long been aware of the growing popularity of poker on television, and we are pleased to bring the biggest Latin poker brand to our Hispanic audiences in the US. The PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour showcases the best poker action, with the top players in the world; bringing a new form of excitement to our millions of viewers."
Humberto Brenes, a member of Team PokerStars Pro commented on the tour as well stating: “It's amazing to see how poker has become one of the most popular sports in Latin America; it has taken off like wildfire! To think that the prize pool has nearly doubled in just one year is an incredible testament to the power of poker.”
