HS Student Wins PokerStars LAPT Grand Final - Monday, April 20, 2009 at 09:28
We all know that it is not unusual for a young poker pro to win a major land or online event. We see it all the time; just think back to Peter Eastgate when he won the 2008 WSOP Main Event at the young age of twenty two. Recently there was an even younger poker player to win a major poker event. The PokerStars LAPT Grand Final in Mar del Plata finished up just a short time ago and high school student Dominik Nitsche walked away almost $400,000 richer.

Eighteen year old Nitsche came in to final table play at the PokerStar.net LAPT Grand Final with the chip lead and never looked back. When final table play began Nitsche held a significant chip lead with 817,000 chips. The closet player in chips to him was Sergio Farias and he had 474,000.

The first player to be eliminated would be Jose Barbero who started final table play in the middle of the pack. On the second hand Barbero moved all in with A-K against Sergio Farias who called with pocket fives. The board saw a five on the flop and Barbero received no help on the turn or river so he was out in ninth place.

Next out of the tournament would be Alfons Fenijin who was short stacked when play began. Fenijin went all in preflop with Q-10 and was called by Farias who held pocket Jacks. Fenijin's cards would not hold up and he would go out in eighth place.

Rodolfo Awad would knock out the next player, Derek Lerner. Lerner went all in preflop with A-8 and was called by Awad who held pocket Queens. Lerner got an eight on the flop but Awad got a Queen on the turn and he took the win knocking out Lerner in seventh place.
After the first three eliminations it was time for Nitsche to show his skills. He would knock out the next two players in one hand. Leo Fernandez would go all in and would be called by both Sergio Farias and Nitsche. Nitsche held pocket Aces while Fernandez had pocket kings and Farias had pocket tens. The board fell J-8-4-Q-6 and Nitsche knocked out both players, Fernandez in sixth and Farias in fifth.

Fourth place would go to Jason Skeans while third would go to Rodolfo Awad. That would leave Jorge Landazuri and Nitsche to duke it out in heads up play. Both players are very young, with Nitsche being only eighteen and Landazuri being only nineteen it is amazing how they outlasted a field of amazing players and poker pros.
When heads up play began Nitsche held a slight chip lead and that would give him the win. On the final hand Nitsche raised preflop and Landazuri called to see the flop of K-9-8. Nitsche then bet and Landazuri check raised. A ten appeared on the river and Ladazuri went all in. Nitsche called with pocket kings to have trips and Landazuri flipped over his J-5, hoping for the straight draw. Nitsche had won the tournament at the young age of eighteen years old.
