In recent months, PokerStars.com has seen an abundance of entries at its famous weekly Sunday Million tournament, guaranteeing at least a $1,000,000 prize pool. Last weekend was no different, taking in 6,745 buy-ins to the lucrative event; enough to up the overall prize by an additional $349,000.
The excessive field of participants would guarantee the winner an impressive prize of $194,000, unless one particular factor came into play – deal making at the final table. That’s exactly what occurred as the field of 6,745 was dwindled to 3 players remaining.
“KtheKing”, “tapatapa” and “rythman” agreed to a deal based upon the chip status at the time, led by “tapatapa” and trailed by “KtheKing”, who agreed to bow out in 3rd position for a superfluous reward of $90,758. “tapatapa” and “rythman” then battled it out for the extra $30,000 for taking down the tournament.
In the end, it was “rythman” who ousted “tapatapa” for the 1st place prize. However, because of the way PokerStars.com presides over prize chopping rules, and the agreement made while “tapatapa” held the chip lead, the final payout was most interesting. The 1st place victor, “rythman”, was awarded $137,245; while “tapatapa” pocketed a higher amount of $139,726 for a 2nd place finish.
The PokerStars.com Sunday Million final table results were as follows:
1st – “rythman ($137,254*) 2nd – “tapatapa” ($139,726*) 3rd – “KtheKing” ($90,758*) 4th – “Hasuwisp” ($56,658) 5th – “EvilLondon” ($43,303) 6th – “jojo1983” ($31,027) 7th – “deepak1” ($22,259) 8th – “jorgeezy” ($13,490) 9th – “browsef” ($8,364)
*Three-way deal making resulted in aberrant payouts
