PokerStars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour has been in full swing since February with stops in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne and now the tour has made its way to Queensland. The Skycity Casino in Queenstown, New Zealand is hosting the tour stop and the action began on the 20th and will continue until the 25th.
The card room at the casino is small, only five tables, so the tournament will be an intimate affair. The first flight has already taken place with twenty seven players competing in Day 1A. Only three tables were in play so the day would be short. Play was stopped after five one hour levels of play and only eighteen players remained. When day1A began four players did not show and five would be eliminated, leaving the eighteen to return on day 2. It was in the final hour that the majority of the five players would be eliminated. The short stacked players began to make their move and it was then that players would begin to go down.
Kenny Frisby would be the second player eliminated after he ran his A-J against A-Q of another player. Etienne Raubenheimer would go out next after going up against Kristian Lunardi. Peter Ronfeldt and Ariya Iawato were the last to be eliminated before play was ceased for the day.
Play will continue on the 21st at 12:30pm with the second day of the four day one flights. The players chip counts are as follows:
Mark Measey - 58,075 Paul Chisnall - 44,950 Tony Hachem - 39,000 Jerry Calder - 35,425 Kristian Lunardi - 33,300 Darko Balaban - 33,025 Mark Anstey - 30,700 Joel Cohen - 29,700 Ben Barclay - 28,975 Spencer Padway - 25,075 Lyle Smith - 22,925 Ian Hornby - 21,750 Aaron Golledge - 19,850 Rachel Vis - 15,275 John Brugman - 12,575 Damon Lum - 10,725 Richard Lancaster - 2,075
