A field of 259 players showed up to compete in the PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour Playa Conchal event just a few days ago. The tournament had a very good turnout and in the end it was Amer Sulaiman, a Canadian coffee merchant, earned the first place title.
Sulaiman would have to wait till the wee hours of the morning to claim his title. Heads up play during the tournament would take hours and not end until early Monday the 23rd. Sulaiman would have to face Sol Bergren in heads up play and win to take the title.
The final table was full of Canadian players with only three players from other countries: one Dutch, one Guatemalan and one Costa Rican. Bergren would hold the chip lead when final table play began and that lead would help him stay in the competition to make it to heads up play.
When final table play began Bergren held 1.3 million chips and after busting three players at the table he would gain an even larger chip lead. However Sulaiman would grow his stack as well as he busted two players and this would help him once final table play began. When heads up play began Bergren held only 600,000 more chips than Sulaiman.
Sulaiman would gain the lead quickly during heads up play but it would take hours before a winner would be named. When the final hand occurred Sulaiman would go all in with top pair and top kicker while Bergren called with top pair and a combo flush and straight draw. The rest of the cards were dealt and Bergren missed getting what he needed which gave Sulaiman the win.
