PokerStars.com is already famous for holding the largest weekly guarantee - the Sunday Million valued at a minimum of $1.5 million. Last weekend, however, PokerStars hosted a special Sunday Million that saw an incredible prize pool guaranteed to pay out at least $2.5 million.
An astonishingly large field of 16,260 players converged on the tables Sunday, posting the usual $200+$15 buy-in, increasing the $2.5m guarantee to a whopping $3,252,000 prize pool. After 11 hours and 16 minutes of rigorous tournament play, a victor emerged. "lp_SakiSaki" of Stockholm was awarded a massive purse of $331,378 for the 1st place win.
Finishing in 2nd was “Beufford”, eliminated in heads-up for an impressive $227,640, while “MauryFishant” claimed the 3rd place prize of $162,600. The top 2,475 spots each received a piece of the enormous prize pool.
The special $2.5 million Sunday Million was part of an outstanding line-up of events to close out the 2008 year at the online poker room, including the PokerStars.com Guinness World Record Tournament that drew enough players to fill all 35,000 available seats.
