Reverting back to its usual Sunday Million online poker tournament after a special $2.5 million GTD over the holidays, PokerStars.com hosted the $1.5 million guaranteed last Sunday. An exceptional turnout boosted the prize pool to more than $11.7 million as "stoledog" went on to win the top prize of more than $205k.
A field of 8,504 turned out for the biggest weekly event in the online poker industry, posting the $200+$15 buy-in that brought the expected $1.5 million guarantee to a whopping $1,700,800. The top 1,260 finisher would taste a piece of the lucrative pie.
The tournament lasted about 10-1/2 hours before a winner would emerge. The final table consisted of exceptionally skilled participants, fighting diligently to earn their position in the final nine. One by one, the table dwindled until only three remained.
The first to hit the rails was “Prom Queens”, taking with them a well deserved 3rd place prize of nearly $95k. That left it up to “stoledog” and “USA_20080920” to battle it out for the honor of 1st place. Both participants showed a tough exterior and cunning ability to hoard chips, but in the end, only one could be the victor.
That privilege went to “stoledog”, ousting “USA_20080920” to take down the massive tournament and rewarding top prize of $205,966. “USA_20080920” finished 2nd with an impressive cash of $138,615.
