Topic: Action Preflop????? Posted: November 30 2006 at 7:55am |
Ok, I can't get Poker.com HH right now so I will try and recount this one as best I can.
Table .50/1.00 10 max.
HERO($55approx.)
VILLAIN(~$100+)
Villain hasn't been at the table long. I have seen him call huge bets on flop and turn chasing a flush. He has reraised w/ 10 7. Basically he seems to be attempting to play LAG, but not very effectively.
HERO is BB(10 ,10 )
2 folds
Villain: UTG+2 raises to $18
folds to Hero.
HERO???????????? What Action would you guys take? What hands do you think he could have? I'll post what happened later.

You don't have much info on him as he is new and he just raised 18x the big blind, you either push all in and hope to win the race as your pocket tens are very vulnerable, or you can fold and wait for a better spot. I would fold here, not enough information on him.

i agree with wayne... its not worth risking chips with a decent starting hand like 1010, find yourself looking at QQ or better i would push him all in, but not with 1010

But if it was Morder he would be all-in expecting to hit quads again
But I am with the group. You lay it down until you get a better read on him.

Sure he is trying to LAG...but $18 preflop ...yikes he has at least a pair...your Dimes are shrinking and he was not ReRaising or chasing. We must assume since he is in early position he has at least a pair or a big Ace. I give up the $1 BB and let him scoop that one. If he did have a monster he sure didn't get paid (taking the blinds only). This hand differs from what you have seen him play in that he opened the pot for a crazy almost uncallable bet. You have witnessed him reraising on a chase and chasing. The $18 bet is from his weak/tight roots...he has a monster.
Elfoldo and chuckle at that donkey.

I disagree. A lot of players are overbetting pre-flop to NOT want a call. His hand range is very wide, probably still decent. You have the 6th best starting hand in Holdem, and I seldom give an idiot (i.e. someone who re-raises with T7) credit for a hand. I get pissy and push right in his face.

Tib, that was my line of thinking as well. I really felt like he some medium pair. The only hand i thought that he might have that had me beat was JJ. So I pushed and he thinks for a few and calls......
Villain: A J
FLOp:x, 10 ,Q
Turn: x
River: K
Villain wins the pot.
His call was actually ok considering what the two hands were, though I wonder if he calls there if I have more behind for my push. I feel ok about my play because I really expect him to show me a mid pair alot of times.

Tib, leetay, is it really worth the risk of losing your stack when you are basing him being an idiot on only one hand? I agree that donks usually overbet when they don't want a call but I have also learnt that you can not classify a player as a donk after one hand.

It's not something I make a habit of doing Wayne. I guess I just felt like gambling where I thought there was a very good chance he held a mid pair. In retrospect, I should have just waited and tried to get him when I flopped good(rare on this particular night ).
