Hearing Expected on Proposed UIGEA Regulations - Tuesday, March 11, 2008
It is expected that the US Houce Committee on Financial Services, chaired by Barney Frank (D-MA), will hold hearings on the proposed UIGEA regulations in April. These hearings will examine the claims of US banking and financial institutions that the proposed regulations unfairly put a substantial burden on banks and financial institutions to enforce the ambiguous law. Some have claimed the proposed regulations are a compliance trap and are not likely to stop citizens gambling with foreign-based internet gambling operators. (full story)

EU Launches Investigation of UIGEA - Tuesday, March 11, 2008
The European Commission issued a press release earlier today announcing that the European Union has launched an investigation into discriminatory trade practices by the United States in relation to the online gambling industry. (full story)

WSOP 2008 Schedule - Thursday, December 13, 2007

iMEGA Files Objections to UIGEA Regulations - Thursday, December 13, 2007
iMEGA, the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association, has announced that they have filed formal objections to the UIGEA Regulations promulgated by the United States Treasury Department. iMEGA noted that the failure to define the term "unlawful gambling transaction" leaves these regulations open to ad hoc interpretation and potential corruption. US Congressmen Urge Rollback of UIGEA - Friday, November 30, 2007
Eight member of the US House of Representives, including Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank, have written U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab expressing concern about the USTR's handling the WTO dispute regarding the UIGEA. The lawmakers said they viewed the administration action "as a drastic step which could have significant consequences for the entire WTO system." (full story)

Annie Duke Blasts the UIEGA at House Hearings - Saturday, November 17, 2007
The House Judiciary Committee listened to testimony this week from experts regarding the internet gambling and the enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Annie Duke, speaking on behalf of the Poker Player's Alliance invoked patriotic language about freedom as an American in her spirited defense of the right of the people to play poker in their own homes. Harrah's Getting into the Online Poker Industry? - Saturday, November 17, 2007
Harrah's Entertainment Inc. is considering getting into the online poker industry under it's World Series of Poker brand name. Harrah's CEO Gary Loveman made these comments at the Global Gaming Expo this week and clarified that Harrah's is only considering this option in jurisdictions where there are no questions regarding the legality of online poker.
