Reviewer: Footnote75
Reviewing poker books is always difficult, because everybody's 'strategies'
vary. Although the basic advice on the game is usually the same, all published
'experts' have their own views which never seem to quite tally.
This, however, is an excellent book for both beginners and those with a bit of
experience. It's very clear, relies on carefully-constructed examples all the
way through, and achieves its aim to be a thorough introduction to the game. For
anybody who's been playing under a year, reading this will help to consolidate
your knowledge and probably offer a few tips you'd not thought of. By its very
nature it also gives a bit of advice on 'live' poker, which could come in very
useful for anyone who plays both.
The best thing for those who have never played online is that it leads you
through the whole process – from getting an ADSL connection and choosing a poker
room, to depositing real money and the logistics of the software. In some ways I
wish I'd had this when I started, although the advice given on which poker room
to choose is contentious to say the least, and could be slightly out of date now
that the USA changes have taken place. The book also lists other books, software
and websites which will help, all of which are very good advice.
Amazon is selling this cheap, and I would recommend it without a second thought
for just about anybody – even if you think you're beyond it!
