Omaha Hi/Lo Poker Rules
Omaha Hi/Lo is a bit more advanced than Omaha so I recommend playing Omaha initially until you have that down. Once you have played Omaha Poker for a little while you'll have no problem moving over to Omaha Hi/Lo Poker. We're going to quickly take a look at the gameplay of Omaha Hi/Lo, but I suggest reading over our Omaha rules so you don't miss any of the details.
Gameplay
To start the hand the dealer needs to shuffle up the cards while the two players to the left of the dealer need to place a blind bet into the pot. In Omaha Hi/Lo the blinds are a bit different than usual. If you're playing a $5/$10 game of Omaha Hi/Lo Poker the blinds are only $2.50 (small blind) and $5 (big blind).
Players in Omaha Hi/Lo are dealt out four cards to start the hand, which is followed by a round of betting. The first two betting rounds you need to use the small bet, which in our example would be $5. When you're done betting after the deal, the dealer can kill a card and turn over the next three cards face up in front of everyone. The 2nd betting round takes place now using the small bet and than the dealer flips over the turn after killing a card beforehand.
After the turn the betting rounds move up to the big bet, which is $10 in our example. When the 1st round of betting is over using the big bet of $10 the dealer can turn over the river after killing the top card on the deck first. There is one more round of betting like in regular Omaha and than the showdown if players are still in the hand.
Winning the Pot
Omaha Hi/Lo differs from Omaha when it comes to winning the pot. In Omaha Hi/Lo the player with the highest 5-card hand always wins half of the pot. If a low hand qualifies the lowest hand wins the other half of the pot, but if nobody qualifies for the low hand the high hand wins the entire pot. In order to qualify for the low hand you need to have 5 cards that are 8 or lower without any pairs. For instance, if you have a 2-4-5-6-8 you'd qualify for the low hand and would win as long as nobody has a lower hand. Just like in Omaha Poker, when you play Omaha Hi/Lo you can only use 2 of your own hole cards and 3 community cards. You can use different cards to make your low and high hand though, so keep this in my mind while playing.
