Ted Forrest
Ted Forrest is an outstanding professional poker player and is
considered one of the finest Seven-card stud players in the game. He is also one
of the most successful high stakes poker players. Forrest is a quiet player, and
does not dress or act flamboyantly as some of the leading poker player, but he
is singularly effective at reading other players, a skill he developed in the
box as a dealer in his early days in Las Vegas.
Ted Forrest was borne in Syracuse, New York in 1964. His father was a college
professor and as a teenager, Forrest excelled in high school wrestling, track,
football and basketball, and developed a fierce competitive spirit during these
years and a mental toughness that was to serve him well in competitive poker.
Forrest left college in the middle 80s and traveled west to the Grand Canyon
where he found a job. He frequently took trips to Las Vegas to play poker during
this period. He focused primarily on Seven-card Stud. Forrest returned to
college for a period, but after his father�s death, he moved permanently to Las
Vegas. It was in the early years in Las Vegas that he worked in the box as a
dealer and refined his skills at reading other players.
In 1993, Forrest won three bracelets in a single year at the World Series of
Poker, joining the ranks of a small, elite group of players, including
Phil Ivey and
Phil Hellmuth. These bracelets were won in Razz, Omaha 8 and $5,000 Seven-card
Stud event. Over the next six years, Forrest made six more final tables at the
WSOP with two 10th place finishes and two runner-up games. In 2005, Forrest beat
Chris
"Jesus" Ferguson, who like Ted is also on the
FullTiltPoker
team, to win the U.S. Heads Up Poker Championship at Caesar�s
Palace. To date, Forrest�s career tournament earnings have exceeded $3.3
million.
Forrest attributes his success at the poker table to a borne talent, a desire to
continually improve his skills and his focus and preparation at the poker table.
His ability to read other players has certainly contributed to his success as
well. Ted Forrest can be seen playing high stakes games at the Bellagio in Las
Vegas and at the Bicycle and Hustler Casino in Los Angeles.
