The 2009 Poker Ashes poker tournament is set to begin in late June in England and it was recently announced that online poker room, 888, is offering their players a chance to compete in the star studded event. Four lucky players can earn a seat to the tournament and be part of a team that includes some of the biggest names in cricket.
Poker Ashes 2009 will see tournament teams from Australia and England facing each other in a series of five ‘test matches’ while playing No Limit Hold’em poker. The tournament will be filmed by Sky Sports for airing at a later date.
Darren Gough former captain of the Yorkshire cricket team will head the English side of the tournament while Shane Warne will captain the Australian side. The team that wins the competition will earn $50,000 that will be donated to the charity of their choice. The England side will be donating to the Professional Cricket Association while the Australian side will be donating to the Shane Warne Foundation.
Each team will have six players, four of which will be pro cricket players. The remaining two for each team will be up for grabs for 888 internet poker players. 888 members can participate in online satellites to try and earn a spot at the competition.
Players who want to play for the England team can qualify in the satellite final by winning a weekly free roll which are held on Thursdays at 8pm BST or by winning one of the $1 satellites that are held Saturday through Wednesday at 8pm BST. The final will be held on June 7th at 8pm BST.
Players interested in playing on the Australian team can qualify during daily free rolls on Monday through Sunday at 8pm AEST or at the daily $5 Poker Ashes satellites which are held at 8:45 AEST. The Australian final will take place on June 7th at 8pm AEST.
The winners will get a seat to the Poker Ashes event and have their travel and accommodations paid as well as $1,000 in spending money. They will also be awarded a bag of autographed cricket memorabilia.
