John Duthie Resignation as CEO of EPT - Sunday, January 08, 2012 at 06:35
In somewhat shocking news, John Duthie just announced that he has resigned as the CEO of the European Poker Tour (EPT). I can't say that I seen this coming, as there really weren't any hints leading up to Duthie's resignation. A post was made on the 2+2 Forum by one of Duthie's friend's announcing the resignation yesterday. John also signed into 2+2 briefly yesterday to confirm that the news was in fact true and that he would no longer be working with the European Poker Tour.

Why Did John Duthie Resign?

It's unsure why Duthie decided to resign, but it could be because he simply wants to move on. Duthie stated that “It is time to move on and to leave the EPT in the capable hands of the existing management team”. Duthie also stated that he's eager to work in the poker industry still and he can't wait to see what 2012-2013 has in store for the US poker industry. I expect Duthie to forge some new relationships and I'm sure he's going to still be a major player in the poker industry, but it might be in the USA now.

Duthie founded the European Poker Tour in 2004 and has been the CEO ever since. Duthie's contract with the EPT was up at the end of 2011 and rather than renew his contract he decided to part ways with the company on a good note. Duthie also parted ways at the end of 2011 with PokerStars and is no longer going to be working with them in the future. It seems that Duthie might already have a new business plan ready to roll out, but he needed to wait until his previous obligations were over.

Duthie feels strongly that the US poker market is ready to bounce back in the next year or two. There are going to be some great business opportunities for the right people to take advantage of and Duthie wants a chance to get in the mix. Duthie has stated that he's leaving the EPT on a great note and I'm sure he'll still help the company when he has the time to ensure the EPT succeeds without him at the helm.

Who Will Run the EPT?

It has been announced that Edgar Stuchly will take over as the CEO of the EPT right away. Stuchly was the president of the EPT for the past several months and Duthie feels that Stuchly will be able to continue to grow the EPT. Stuchly has a lot of experience and he should be able to make an easy transition into his new role with the company. The EPT is currently enjoying its eighth season and the poker tour has grown into the biggest poker tour in the world under the guidance of Duthie.

Don't forget that PokerStars is the best online poker site if you want to qualify for a seat to any EPT events. PokerStars hands out tons of prize packages every year to EPT events around Europe and you can win one by signing up for an account and playing against competitors from around the world.
