| Harrah's Getting into the Online Poker Industry? - Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 08:19

Harrah's Entertainment Inc. is considering getting into the online poker industry under it's World Series of Poker brand name. Harrah's CEO Gary Loveman made these comments at the Global Gaming Expo this week and clarified that Harrah's is only considering this option in jurisdictions where there are no questions regarding the legality of online poker. So while this initially means Europe, you can certainly see Harrah's setting itself up to enter the US market if the Frank or Waxman bills are successful in legalizing and regulating online poker in the US.
While the World Series of Poker name is a powerful brand, it's not exactly a guarentee that Harrah's will be able to turn this into a successful online poker room. I think most would agree that the World Poker Tour brand name was also very powerful in the poker industry but the attempt to create a WPT Online Poker Room flopped badly.
I wonder if Harrah's might be better off using the name of one of their famous casino properties? The Bellagio is already very well know as the place to play live poker in Vegas, plus it has a top notch reputation for luxury. Perhaps using the Bellagio name for online poker would an attractive option? |
