Speidel Wins Aussie Millions 2012 Main Event - Friday, February 03, 2012 at 13:18
Oliver Speidel has won the Aussie Millions 2012 main event championship after performing consistently at the felt for seven hours. The final table started with seven at the Crown Casino, Melbourne. When the day started, Bjorn Li was in the lead with 1.3 million in chips, but Speidel showed his class and composure to clinch the title.

Kowassarie and Li Fight for Stack Lead

Following an hour of intense action at the table for almost an hour, Li tried to bully the opponents by raising in a crucial hand. Mohamad Kowassarie and Kenneth Wong stayed in the game. The flop brought Kh-Qh-7h and Li made a 200,000 bet. Wong and Kowassarie called it just in time to see an Ace hit the turn. Kowassarie checked, Li wagered 435,000 and Wong folded. Kowassarie then check-raised and went all in with almost 2 million. This was called by Li. When the players' hands were turned, it was clear that the intense betting action was a result of both believing that they had the winning hand. The flop's 7 had made a trip with Li's 7-7. Kowassarie's J-T completed a straight with the flop and turn taking him to the top of the leaderboard.

Seidel Takes out Last Four

Speidel then took the action to a new level. He took out Yann Dion, who was in 7th. Li was taken out in 6th when he and Kowassarie went head-to-head again. In the five handed game, Speidel was in the chip lead with 3 million and stayed there till the end of the event. Speidel eliminated the last four in the game, taking two hours in the process. When the game reached the heads-up stage, Speidel was in a 3.5:1 lead. Wong, the last to be taken down, left the game when his 9-9 failed to make a trip on the board. Speidel's A-A trumped Wong's hand.

Phil Ivey becomes Aussie Millions Super High-Roller Winner

The Super High Roller 2012 Aussie Millions took place alongside the main event. Phil Ivey captured the first place in the event and bagged $2,000,000. He went into heads-up play against Patrik Antonius. Ivey made the biggest score of his career in this event. This victory comes hot on the heels of a 12th place Main Event finish worth $100,000. The high-roller event had a field of just 16 who entered after paying a 6-figure buy-in.

Some of the poker professionals who made an appearance at the event were Jason Mercier, Erik Seidel, Sorel Mizzi, John Juanda, Tom Dwan and Sam Trickett. Dwan was the first to leave. He was followed by Nick Wong and Seidel, who was taken out by Dan Smith. Yu left in the 6th place and Mizzi in the 5th. Following their exits, the biggest bubble to be played this year started. Daniel Negreanu, Ivey, Hansen and Antonius were the last four. By winning the event, Ivey also made it to the second place on the ATM (all time money) list.
