| Annie Duke Blasts the UIEGA at House Hearings - Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 08:29
|
The House Judiciary Committee listened to testimony this week from experts regarding the internet gambling and the enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Annie Duke, speaking on behalf of the Poker Player's Alliance invoked patriotic language about freedom as an American in her spirited defense of the right of the people to play poker in their own homes.
"More than any other value, America is supposed to be about freedom," said Duke. "Except where one's actions directly and necessarily harm another person's life, liberty or property, government in America is supposed to leave the citizenry alone. Examples of Congress straying from this principle are legion, but few are as egregious [as the UIGEA]".
These are truly the times that try men's souls.
