Update on the Bodog.com Domain Name Dispute - Monday, November 19, 2007
On November 13th, Bodog filed a new motion in Washington State seeking a decision on a "case of first impression" which if successful will help protect all domain owners and owners of other intellectual property rights from patent trolls like 1st Technologies. Bodog is asking that Washington follow the lead of other states and not allow domains (and other intellectual property) to be treated as property eligible to be seized to satisfy a judgment. As you've probably heard, bodog.com, bodogpoker.com and other bodog domain names are no longer working due to an overly aggressive ruling on a frivolous patent infringement lawsuit by 1st Technology. Bodog rolled with the punches here and moved all of their sites to the new domain name BodogLife.com while they continue to fight to get their domains back. Amazingly, Bodog did not lose any ground as the market leader in the online sportsbook industry and they have successfully rebranded themselves as bodoglife. But now the fight with 1st Technology is getting personal as Calvin Ayre challenges 1st Technology frontman Scott Lewis to a mixed martial arts fight. (full story)
