Rank of Hands

The rank of hands remains the same no matter which type of poker game you play.

One of the first things that every single poker player needs to learn before they can sit down at the tables are the rankings of each poker hand. If you don't know the poker hand rankings there is no possible way that you can sit down at a poker table and walk away with profit. Memorizing the hand rankings can be a little confusing initially, but once you start playing poker it won't take long before you know what hand beats what without even thinking. We're going to start with the highest-ranking hand at the top and than move down until we reach the worst hand in poker.

The hand rankings remain the same no matter what poker game you're playing although some poker games you win with the lowest possible hand rather than the highest hand. You also need to consider the poker game that you're playing when you're considering the strength of your hand. In Texas Holdem trips is a fairly strong hand depending on what's on the board, but if you're playing a poker game such as Omaha you'll hardly ever win with trips.

The great thing about poker is that there are only ten possible hands that you can have and they're easy to remember once you play the game a few times with your friends or for free online. When you can name out all ten hands in order you're ready to start playing poker for real money.
